Obituary for Jesse Keith Cordier

Jesse Keith Cordier, beloved grandson, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, age 27, departed this earth to go home to heaven on March, 20, 2021. Jesse was born May, 10, 1993 in Montevideo, MN to the late Joseph Anthony Cordier of St Francis, SD and Paulette Bordeaux Young of Garretson, SD.
Jesse was preceded in death by his father; grandfathers: Richard “Dick” Cordier and Gregory Paul Bordeaux Sr., both of St Francis, SD.

Jesse is survived by his grandmother Rosemarie Kramer of Minneapolis, MN; mother Paulette Young (Duane) of Garretson, SD; siblings: Keena Cordier of Sioux Falls, SD, Jaime Cordier (Megan) of Lincoln, NE, Stephen Cordier of Aberdeen, SD, Kelly Cordier of Sioux Falls, Timothy Cordier and Matthew Cordier both of Fort Collins, CO, Kristen Cordier, Paul Cordier and Samantha Young all of Garretson, SD and Jacqueline Cordier of St Francis, SD; and three nephews.

Jesse attended Lakeview Elementary and then went on to Todd County High School and graduated in 2012 with high honors. He was in the National Honor Society, the drama club where they put on the play “a Mid Summers Night Dream”, and the Media Club where he had lots of fun putting on the news program with his classmates. He also really enjoyed learning about science. Jesse also attended Marty Indian School in his freshman year where he learned how to play guitar and performed a song at the end of year music concert put on for the parents.

While still in high school, Jesse started his first job in Valentine, NE becoming a part of the Pizza Hut Family where he made lifelong friends. Jesse also worked in Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, and Brandon, SD. He had an excellent work ethic and always tried to improve his work environment if he was able to. He quickly became an essential worker wherever he was employed.

Anywhere Jesse went, he always made fast friends. He was easy going and we all enjoyed his dry sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family the most, watching movies, playing board games and video games with his siblings. One of his hobbies was reading, some of his favorite novels were by Stephen King. He also read Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, Harry Potter, and many other novels. Jesse enjoyed watching tv series and movies with his siblings and his big sister called him nerdy because he got her to watch The Office. He actually got each of us, including his Grandma Rose, to watch the many shows he enjoyed viewing like Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, all the Marvel movies, the DC movies, the CW series’ like the Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, the Justice League, Band of Brothers, Breaking Bad, the Mandalorian, 1917, Fury, Saving Private Ryan, The Pianist, Schindler’s List, Dunkirk, The Pacific.. and many more. He even enjoyed watching the Cat Noir and LadyBug series with his 10 year old sister, Samantha. His hidden talent was acting but he never liked his picture being taken so who knows where that would’ve ended up. And he loved making us laugh with his funny re-enactments in order to make a point. Jesse also enjoyed solving hand held puzzles. He had several Rubik’s Cubes and timed himself on how fast he could solve them. His fastest time was around 27 seconds. Jesse also loved playing the piano and mastered Fur Elise by Beethoven in his spare time. It was one of his goals to practice enough to be proficient in piano but we loved listening to whatever he played.
There’s so much about Jesse that we all loved, but probably the most was that he respected everyone’s point of view and their unique personalities and just accepted everyone for who they were and never tried to change anyone. That was his loving stance.

Honorary mentions are Trish Whidby, Valentine, NE an appreciated second mother figure; Duane Young Garretson, SD a second father figure; Jen Rivera, Aberdeen, SD friend and mother of his nephew; Kamryn Marshall, adopted sister in the Indian way; and Jesse’s high school friends who preceded him in death: Sam, Kelsey, and Jeremy. To all Jesse’s teachers and friends that we didn’t get a chance to meet, please know that you were thought of often in his big heart. Lastly, we’d like to mention Sgt. Michael Poulson, Fort Carson, CO who was Jesse’s best friend whom he kept in touch with over the years. We greatly appreciate your friendship, Mike, to our son and brother.

It was Jesse’s goal in life to find a way to join the military but his hindrance was his scoliosis. He was researching ways to fix his scoliosis because he was determined to find a way to achieve his goal. He applied several times to the Army but his scoliosis was over the curvature degree allowed.
It would’ve been Jesse’s honor to help military vets and also to point others in the path of help for their scoliosis.
So, if you’d like to help, we request memorial donations be made in Jesse’s name to these 2 wonderful organizations: saveawarrior.org and settingscoliosisstraight.org.

A memorial service for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
