Obituary for Maybelle Dixon (Flood)

Maybelle (Flood) Dixon was born on November 5, 1934 in Okreek, South Dakota, to Bernard Flood, Sr., and Ada (Little Money) Flood. She grew up in Okreek, but also resided in Hastings, Nebraska; Gallup, New Mexico; and Kirtland, New Mexico, throughout her life. She returned to Okreek to be closer to her family, and spent her remaining years there in her loving home.

Maybelle spent most of her life as a homemaker and raised three children, Cheryl Rogers, Wade (Sandy) Dixon, and Lynette (Stoney) Good Voice. She was a loving grandmother to grandchildren Maclovio “Ponch” Jensen, Corey (Tatiye) Jensen, Danielle Dixon, Jade Herman, Kevin Dixon, and Jamee Havemann, as well as nine great grandchildren. She also cared deeply for her numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved as though they were her own children.

Some of Maybelle’s favorite hobbies were quilting and crocheting. She enjoyed cooking and never failed to have something on the stove and a strong cup of coffee ready every time she had visitors. In her later years, Maybelle loved to “roll” at Turtle Creek and the Rosebud Casino, where she often spent time with her beloved siblings. When she was at home, you would likely catch her watching old western movies or laughing while visiting on the phone with one of her many family members who would call to hear the comfort of her loving voice.

Maybelle passed away on December 21, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Ada Flood; siblings, Cleveland Flood, John Flood, Jeanette Damon, Bernard Flood, Jr., Collins Flood, and Lavern “Delmar” Flood; and her granddaughter, Danielle Dixon. Maybelle touched countless lives over the years with her beautiful spirit and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
