Obituary for Sharon A. Hartman (Sokol)

Sharon Agnes Hartman, age 72 of Valentine, died Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Pineview Good Samaritan Center after an extended battle with cancer.

Sharon was born in Alliance, Nebraska on November 28, 1946, to Arnold and Blanche (Dempsey) Sokol. The family lived for a time in Igloo, South Dakota before moving to Valentine.
On September 8, 1963, Sharon married Darrel Hartman. They had one daughter and a son. Sharon worked various bookkeeping jobs over the years and eventually retired from the Post Office.

Sharon placed family above all else, going out of her way to make each event special. She was an avid quilter, designing many special quilts for family as well as donating several to benefit charities. She pursued many other hobbies including ceramics, cross-stitch, painting, and just about any other type of creative pursuit imaginable.

Survivors include husband Darrel Hartman of Valentine; her daughter Sherri Lynn (Mark) Stokey of North Platte, Nebraska; and Chad (Pam) Hartman of Erie, Colorado; sisters Patricia Soenksen of Pierce, Nebraska and Judith (Randy) Wiley of Lemon Grove, California; grandchildren: Nicholas and Megan Stokey, Taven and Willoe Hartman; and a special great-grandson Carter Donohoe.

Preceding Sharon in death were her parents, Arnie and Blanche Sokol.

The family requests donations be made in Sharon’s name to the Sandhills Cancer Fund in lieu of flowers.
