Life Story for Robert Merwyn "Bob" Gibbs

Robert (Bob) Merwyn Gibbs, MD, age 91, of Ainsworth, Nebraska, passed away on March 8, 2019 at Parkside Manor in Stuart, Nebraska. Bob was born in Oakland, California on January 30, 1928 to Franklin P. Gibbs and Mabel (Meders) Gibbs.

Bob attended Parker School in Oakland, CA. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947, and served during the end of WWII and the Korean Conflict as a drill and Judo/self defense instructor. He completed premedical training at the University of California, Davis College of Osteopathic Physicians and graduated in 1953. He then completed his internship at Civic Center Hospital in Oakland, CA. Bob later completed his psychiatric residency at Mendocino State Hospital and Napa State Hospital.

Bob loved fishing in the streams and lakes. He enjoyed the solitude of his fishing and camping trips. Bob retired from medical practice to the countryside outside Ainsworth, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Eleanor) and son (Sidney Gibbs). Bob is survived by his three sons: Shepherd (Pat) of Ainsworth, NE, Charles (Adele) of Auburn, NE, and Martin (Ruth) of Pasco, WA; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
